Assessment And Pairing
A Baseline is the level in which a learner can perform at, prior to teaching and without any prompts (help). A baseline needs to be determined for all skills, prior to designing an Intervention Plan. This is referred to as an assessment which will be done if one has not been conducted. A Criterion-Referenced Assessment known as "the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills" (ABLLS) and/or “the Assessment of Functional Living Skills" (AFLS) will be used. Such assessments will help provide the following; determine whether there is a significant difference between the learner and his/her peers for each skill, indicate the learner's present skills (baseline) and determine the learner's objectives (skills which must be learned next).
During the assessment, observations will be noted. For children, interactions between the learner and the therapist will take place to ensure a trust relationship (pairing) before the implementation of the program begins.
The ABA Licensed Psychologist can conduct a Diagnostic or Developmental assessment if recommended.
